NOVI SAD (FIBA U19 World Championship) - China qualified for the Eight-Finals round with a 59-46 win over Mali in Group B of the FIBA U19 World Championship.
Mali had the best of the opening exchanges are were 14-10 ahead at the end of the first quarter.
But after China had warmed up, they were able to limit their opponents’ scoring to 27 points in the next 20 minutes while upping the tempo themselves.
By the end of the third quarter, they had edged in front by eight points (46-37), which Mali cut to six after a Waly Coulibaly lay up mid-way through the half.
China, though, eased away at the end and Wei Su ended with 16 points and eight rebounds, with Bo Zhang scoring 11 points, pulling down five rebounds and laying on three assists.
Coulibaly was Mali’s star performer with 19 points and six rebounds to his name, although Amadou Kaba (11 points and eight rebounds) and Ibrahima Sory Dembele (seven points and 11 assists) also weighed in.
While China progress to the Eighth Finals, Mali will contest the classification round to determine 13th to 16th place.
