NOVI SAD (FIBA U19 World Championship) - Unbeaten France completed their Group A campaign with a one-sided rout of winless Lebanon in the FIBA U19 World Championship on Saturday.
Captain Nicolas Batum and Adrien Moerman, with 15 and 14 points respectively, starred for Les Bleuets, who followed up back-to-back victories over Lithuania and Brazil with a routine success.
They were already assured of top spot in the pool before tip-off, but coach Richard Billant again started with his strongest five.
And his side established an 18-point lead (50-32) by half-time, center Moerman pouring in five points in a row prior to the buzzer to effectively end any lingering Lebanon hopes.
Things got worse for the underdogs in the third period, Batum clicking into gear with a seven-point run, and heading into the fourth quarter, France had a 33-point cushion (77-44).
Billant gave some of the squad's fringe players an extended opportunity to impress in the fourth, and so their scoring was shared around by the end.
Center Ludovic Vaty, of French giants Pau-Orthez, finished with a personal haul of 11 points (five from nine from two-point range) and 10 rebounds.
Lebanon were just four points adrift (33-29) after 16 minutes, but that was the closest they would get.
They were 45.6% (21/46) from two-point range and just 20% from the charity stripe as they bowed out of the tournament.
Their top scorer was Mohamed Hamdar with 12 points.
